November 5th 2013
On Monday Night I played at my sweet new gig with my trio lower_case at The Blackbird Public House & Oyster Bar located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver’s financial district. What a beautiful room! It’s a great spot..all class, moderate sass, and dreamy to play in. The more I perform there, the more I fall in love with the great staff and the gorgeous surroundings. It’s always an eclectic crowd of people that show up too. The after-work unwinders, the touchy feely first daters, foodies, Donnelly fans and then of course, my friends.
There’s nothing that beats looking into a crowd and seeing a familiar face, or hearing a much-loved voice call out from the audience. What an amazing gift to be able to share the gift of art with friends and family. I truly see that every time I perform, and can’t say thank-you enough for the opportunity to share this life’s work with you. To have you at my shows means the world to me.
Last night I played at my other regular gig The Butcher and Bullock with my currently unnamed duo, perhaps you guys can help me find a name for that? It’s me on guitar, and James Calvin Thompson ( the one and only) on bass. We do awesome stripped down versions of my original songs, and some surprising covers. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, KT Tunstall, Sade and many many more! I absolutely love playing there, and we were lucky enough to film most of it so keep an eye out for those videos in the coming weeks.
We’ll be posting them soon.
All of these new projects have resulted in an unprecedented rise in the number of live performances I’m doing. Between three and five nights a week you can find me sauntering up to stage, guitar in tow or dressed to the nines with my boys beside me…either way, I’m always ready to get connected to my higher power…MUSIC.
Today I am grateful that somehow, somewhere along the line..someone believed in me enough to tell me that I was good enough. It’s not always easy, and sometimes I cave under the immense pressure of wanting to be the very best. I want to rise above my petty involvements and attachments and become a shining bright light, using my ability to touch people and perhaps one day, change lives! At this present moment, I feel gratitude that music puts food in my stomach, a roof over my head, and assists others in doing the same.
30 Days of Gratitude
November 4th 2013
I can hardly believe that it is already November! It feels like just yesterday I was ditching my spring jacket and walking boldly into one of the busiest summers of my life. And man, what an amazing summer it was. I played harder, faster and longer than I ever have and watched my friendships blossom and grow. I saw beautiful sunsets and amazing sunrises and opened my heart wider than I ever have. I grew. With the end of the summer came a startling revelation. I needed to nest, to find warmth, comfort and safety in solitude. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and the desire grew so strong that I started the long and arduous process of finding my new home.
On August 1st, I moved into my own little sanctuary in the bustling and beautiful neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant. Main Street is a hive of activity. Hip cats and cool Mom’s wander the streets and everywhere you look there is evidence of life. A far cry from my former hood of Knight & Kingsway. I love it here! I have been a resident of this area for a mere two months, and already I see the effect it is having on my life. I wake up with the desire to get outside and see what’s happening. I want to bask in the daylight and be a part of something bigger, badder and more beautiful…..LIFE!
On this 4th Day of November, I am grateful for my home and all that it represents. The change in me, the future I am walking boldly towards and this new found love of self that blossoms everyday.
I am GRATEFUL.
To all my Vancouver Friends, Tonight I will be playing three sets at The Blackbird (Dunsmuir & Hornby) if you’re around, come for a visit!

Take a moment to check out this exclusive live performance and interview that I did with the amazing crew from Indie To Go. They are a Korean production team and came to Vancouver specifically to highlight Canadian talent and introduce them to Korean music lovers. We had a blast shooting in the downtown core, and I loved meeting them. I performed a brand new song called “Run Until I Die”, it’s unreleased, so check it out!
